Installation “Beauty is Around” Opening
Rikkert Paauw // NL
With local resources and materials that have lost their use (window frames, wood from the floors and walls etc) Rikkert Paauw, with assistants Emily Kanner and Ji Yun Lee, will compose a spatial intervention for the duration of the Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2019 to show what was already there.
Collecting waste material and old furniture could be considered a
design’s equivalent to found footage. It shows the identity of
a city, a group of people, a community. Nothing is lost, everything
can be recycled. By patiently choosing scraps and refuse generously
offered up to anyone who pays attention, he devises new combinations
with endless possibilities. The environmentalist temptations of our
era are adopted as a given; without any claims of excessive
theorisations, he accepts without a pointing finger the squandered
material wealth and reveals the little treasures that are the spice
of life. By removing the economic and logistical constraints, he
encourages autonomy and creativity in a vision of the world that is
open source and in constant evolution. With these local resources
Rikkert Paauw will compose a spatial intervention for the duration
of the Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2019 to show what was already
there. He will concentrate on the area in and near Noblessner in the
northern part of
Tallinn.
The installation will be part of both, Tallinn Architecture Biennale
and Tallinn Design Festival.
